About the name of the coin denar: the numismatic term "denar" comes from the name of the ancient Roman coin denarius. The same etymology is also characteristic of the following coins: denár, denaro, denier, dinar, dinero, diner, etc.
I think it is necessary to make some clarifications regarding the use of one or another numismatic term to denote related coins in terms of etymology. My own reasoning...
Thus, the cult in numismatics ancient Roman (Republic and Empire) silver coin should be clearly called denarius. Often (at least in our country, in Ukraine) these coins are mistakenly called "denar".
In fact, it is fair to use the term "denar" to denote two types of coins:
— Medieval silver coin of a number of issuers: Austria, Poland, Bohemia, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland... extremely common type of European coins.
— Modern currency and coin of the North Macedonia.
Denár (not denar): a purely medieval Hungarian type of coin denar.
